Mother's Day gift ideas for kids to make can be both fun and treasures. Heart prints are a terrific Mother's Day gift idea because it is from the heart that kids give love and presents on Mother's Day. Heart prints are inexpensive and simple to make. They are wonderful for mothers to hang on the refrigerator or add to a scrap book collection. The heart prints project is so simple to do it will be easy for care givers and Dads to help children make this wonderful Mother's Day gift. This makes a good afternoon or rainy day craft project.

The heart print project costs approximately $1.00 per child to make. It takes on average about thirty minutes to complete. Prep time for heart print project is approximately ten minutes.

Heart Prints Supplies Needed:

  • Various heart shaped cookie cutters in different sizes
  • White paper
  • Red paint
  • Pink paint
  • Red Kool-Aid (Optional Variation)
  • Strawberry or cherry pudding (Optional Variation)
  • Shallow pans
  • Paint smocks or clothing covers
  • Magic markers
  • Crayons
  • Table covering such as old newspapers
  • Masking tape
  • Sponges for easy clean up and accidents
  • Wipes for children's hands


Heart Prints Pre-Child Instructions:

  1. Cover the table with old newspapers or some other covering that is alright for crafts. Tape the edges and corners of the table covering underneath the table to prevent the covering from slipping off during the project.
  2. Cover the surrounding floor and floor under the craft table with newspaper in case of accidents or spills.
  3. Mix red and pink paints according to paint instructions.
  4. If going to use the Kool-Aid or pudding variations, mix these according to package directions.
  5. Fill individual pans with the paint, Kool-Aid and pudding. Use only ONE of each type per pan.
  6. Place pans on craft table.
  7. Place cookie cutters on craft table.
  8. Place one sheet of white paper out for each child that will be crafting the project. Have additional sheets of paper ready in case there is time for multiple sheets or in the event of an accidental spillage on paper.
