Ten years ago, working in an office from 9 am to 5 pm was the only "real" way to a successful and comfortable career. Today, more and more brave individuals worldwide are taking a risk and beginning a career from the comfort of their own homes through the opportunities that the ever expanding World Wide Web has to offer. This does work for some people. So why doesn't it work for everyone?

Today, the problem is not finding legitimate online job opportunities. The problem lies in finding a way to work from home through all of the many interruptions and distractions that bombard us. The phone is constantly ringing with phone calls from well-meaning family members that believe that because we work from home, we have all of the spare time in the world. The kids are constantly knocking on the door when they are home, demanding snacks, asking questions, and in general wanting one hundred percent of your undivided attention . Your spouse believes that because he or she has been working outside of the home all day, and you have been right there in your cozy little home office, that you should be taking on most or all of the household chores, in addition to all of the work that you have to get done in order to make a decent living. Does this sound familiar? If this sounds like you, it is essential that you start to make the necessary changes right now in order to make your work time much more productive.

Takeaways
  • One must teach family members to respect their work hours when working from home.
  • One may need to consider outside help in order to ensure that work hours are productive.
