LA Fitness may be adequate for working out, but when it comes to account management, they are used car salesmen at best.

Every year LA Fitness offers some sort of promotion that makes joining the gym sound easy as pie. Well, that part is true. Everything runs like a well-oiled machine while you're signing your contract and direct debit agreement. What they don't tell you while you're signing up for spinning classes is the sort of customer service department they run and billing practices they engage in. Here are the three major scams LA Fitness runs on its members.

Scam 1: Sign up discrepancies - You may not be getting what you asked for.

The enrollment counselors are not there to help you get into that size 4 dress, they are there to make money for LA Fitness and line their pockets with commissions. Just like used car salesmen, it's their job to take you for all you're worth. Though the moral of the story is to avoid LA Fitness like the plague, if you do decide to sign up, and are prepared to have a membership there until you die which will then pass on to your children, make sure you sit there and read the entire contract before signing anything.

Don't skim over the long parts or the "yadda yadda yadda" sections. Those are important. If nothing else, take some pleasure in making your overzealous salesperson stare at the wall while you take 20 minutes to read the contract and the accompanying tiny print. It will bring you great satisfaction later.

If you do end up being charged a different monthly fee than you were quoted or services you signed up for are not available to you, make sure you at least spill some Kool-Aid on the carpet or throw toilet paper wads onto the ceiling before leaving the gym that day. Why? Because it's a preemptive strike on the war you are about to engage in.

Oh and one more thing, they will accuse you of forgetting to send it in if you don't send it through certified mail.

When cancelling your LA Fitness membership (which you can only do by mail), LA Fitness WILL NOT cancel your membership unless you send it by certified mail and they will continuously charge you until you do. They will tell you that they never received it (even though I sent it twice to be sure) and they give you the same answer each time refusing to cancel your service. Cancel your membership by certified mail or they will still charge you until you do.

LA Fitness is the worst gym I have ever been affiliated with. First of all they charge way to much in membership fees. The parking is lousy. Who give a F*ck if they got a pool, basketball, or raquet ball. Charge the extra to those who want to use it. The cancel process is stupid, they go month to month, so I tell in advance when I leave and then I am after that month is paid up. These asshats want 20 day notice that has to be sent to corporate. Waste of time. Dont use the clubs in South Florida, you will waste your money. Gold's gym 19.99 a month

I joined the LA Fitness on Golden Valley Road in Santa Clarita in November 2007. The place has really gone downhill since then. There is no sanitation. The piggy members sweat on the equipment and don't clean up after themselves! There are hairballs in the showers bigger than hamsters! The management has changed almost monthly! That says a lot about their inability to hold down the fort. There is mounds of trash in the parking lot and I've even picked up cigarette packs and beer bottles (yeah, nice and healthy for a gym!) My repeated complaints were met with rolling of the eyes! Also, they allow the lazy motorcycle riders to park their motorcycles ON THE SIDEWALK, by the handicapped parking area so that you and handicapped people have to navigate around them. There are so many idiots with their cell phones! I never take mine out there. That is MY workout time. I think those people are IDIOTS. I cancelled last month and was told I owed for 1 more month. I cancelled

La fitness is a scam. Run as fast as you can away from it. They have no probably taking your money right away and getting you signed up immediately, but when you need to cancel your membership its a hole different story. I canceled in September, but will still have to pay until December. Its ridiculous.

It's ridiculous....these gym memberships are like cults....that's why they run into trouble. Can't they just provide good, fair service...and have some good karma around them......guess not.

The Bensalem LA Fitness facility in the AM is not bad, but at night after 8-9 PM it is a bit scary. There is mininal employee staff in the late hours. I was harrased by some of the other members last year, unfortunatley for them. The amout of drugs and alternative sexual activities is out of control in the later hours at this facility, If you do belong there, just stay away during the later hours.

LA fitness have horrible training and it is almost impossible to cancel the membership! LETS FIGHT BACK!I WORK IN PR I GOT CONNECTIONS! I joined LA fitness December 07 and had my free personal training session where that idiot of trainer told me to lose 10-20 pounds...Im 5'8" tall and 125 pounds....WTF! I yelled at him and told him that I will never come back again, because one of my best friends nearly died because of an eating disorder. So, the next day they called me to ask if I was alright and I said no and that I wanted to cancel the membership immediately. After trying to convince me to stay they finally agreed to send me the form. I never received anything, so I called them and they said I should go online. I did, but i didn't wanna set up an account so I called them again and the lady told me that the problem will be solved. they will call me back. because I was graduating I didn't have the time to follow up with them. when I canceled in MAY(!!!!) my Swiss credit ca

I have been a member of LA fitness in Langhorne for more than three years now. The staff is great but the management sucks. The class rooms are SO hot and the management staff doesn't even care if people fall and slip. They are too cheap to buy fans and I heard a rumor that the vp's go and turn down the air conditioning in the rooms to save money. I thought that's a health hazard.
