Swedish massage, deep tissue, healing touch, bioenergetics, acupressure and reflexology are just a few of the bodyworks I've experienced since falling in love with the physical benefits and affordable pricing offered by local massage therapy schools. Want to explore your options?

Price. You can pay full retail at a fancy salon or enjoy a hefty "win-win" discount when you check yourself into a massage therapy school.

The average retail cost of a one hour massage is $76. You can expect to pay, on average, $30, for the same massage at a massage therapy school. To locate a school near you visit http://www.naturalhealers.com or http://www.massagetherapy.com. Then, there is the old fashioned way - your phone book.

Massage Therapy and Bodywork ABCs. There is a wide variety of massage modalities. To follow are a few "get started" suggestions. Be sure to discuss your particular needs with the therapist.

Bodywork: ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure lets fingers do the walking and the pressing of key points on the surface of the skin. Each part corresponds to a part of the brain or inner organs. The objective is to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force (sometimes known as chi or qi ) to aid healing.

Acupuncture uses the same points as acupressure, but employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle, but firm pressure of hands and feet.

Benefits of Acupressure: Particularly effective in allaying pain without the harmful side effects associated with drugs. Also highly recommended in conditions where physiotherapy is recommended including rheumatoid arthritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica, backache, prolapsed disc, osteoarthritis and other diseases of soft tissues, muscles, bones and joints.
