Most kids loves for their parents to read to them. Children with developmental delays of any kind might lose interest more easily than others maybe because it's more difficult for them to understand or comprehend what you're reading to them. Ever since my 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with a speech delay, I've been on a search to find the best books to read to her. These books have become favorites in our household.

- Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? By Bill Martin, Bill Martin, Jr, and Eric Carle - this was the first book my son memorized at age 4. It introduces children to animals that are easy to recognize and its illustrations are brightly colored and interestingly drawn. It also has a repetitive rhythm which makes for a lot of entertainment for your little one.

- Pat the Bunny, Alphabet Book, By Golden Books and LV Studio - This book teaches your children the alphabet, but it also teaches children different objects, shapes and colors. It's a great book for all children, but especially for those with speech delays because it contains easy words like apple, frog, ball and kite that can be recognized by your toddler.

- Where's Spot and Spot's Fun Year, By Eric Hill - I am especially fond of these two books because they are interactive for your toddler. Your child will love lifting the flaps of these books trying to find Spot and going through Spot's many adventures. In Where's Spot you'll ask your child "Is he behind the door?" and "Is he in the closet?" and this is great for your child to interact by lifting the flaps and responding to the questions. Lift-the-flap stories are great for kids who need a lot of stimulation during story time. If you want your child to be entertained, let them interact with these flap books.

- The Very Hungry Caterpillar board book, By Eric Carle - This hungry caterpillar makes his way through a whole lot of food in a very short time period. The food in this book is fairly recognizable to most children like pear, pie, sausage, etc. It will be easy for your toddler to pick up on these words and start repeating them back to you in no time.
