Reiki which is pronounced (RAY-KEY) is a spiritual practice of holistic natural energy healing. Reiki is a combination of the Japanese word Rei (meaning universal) and Ki (meaning life force energy). Reiki is the attunement of this universal life force energy within spiritual and physical body. Reiki is a gentle process of clearing and loosening energy blocks which allows one to come into better harmony with the universe by rebalancing the natural flow of energy within the body. This alternative therapy can be used to promote physical and mental healing. There are many schools and forms of Reiki. In the following you will learn about a particular school of Reiki known as White Light Reiki.

White Light Reiki was formerly known as Johrei Reiki. Johrei is a Japanese word meaning: "Spiritual White Light". This school of Reiki originated from Raku Kei. According to some sources, a man by the name of Jim Davis started using the name Johrei so that it might be easily distinguishable from the other schools of Reiki as well as bring it closer to its origins.

An enhanced form of traditional Reiki, Johrei is a combination of Raku Kei Reiki and the Johrei religion. However, Johrei Reiki is not recognized by members of the Johrei faith as part of their teachings or practices. The Johrei Fellowship has placed trademark on the name Johrei and any unauthorized use of it is prohibited. Some say that there were a number of Reiki Masters trained in Raku Kei that branched off and started teaching it under the name Johrei Reiki. This form of Reiki is what is now taught by many as White Light Reiki.
