When I was younger, the subject of erotica was either taboo or something that was only discussed in Cosmopolitan magazine. Now, erotica has become mainstream and is easily blurring the lines between porn and sensuality. In my opinion, there is a big difference between porn and erotica, especially in this generation. Porn seems to be more aimed towards males, with women having to create their own porn. If you don't believe that porn is more male-oriented, watch how the characters Chandler and Joey on the show "Friends" behave when the subject of porn is brought up and you'll get a realistic view on how men act for real when porn is mentioned within their earshot.

Porn has no story-lines. The actors will say a few things in the beginning to get the ball rolling, but there is no real build up to the sex. The women are put into positions that are nearly impossible to get into. These women are barely legal while the men can be various ages, using these girls for their own pleasure. The cameras zoom into the most intrusive areas known to man. Plus, there is not much focus on the satisfaction of the barely legal woman. It seems like every scene is based on getting the "money shot," and the women are far too vocal. I doubt that there is a lot of women that scream and moan that much while they say, "Ooh, baby. Give it to me." I doubt that women are actually that emphatic during sex in real life than they are in those movies in general. However, the porn business is a multi-billion dollar industry, so someone must be doing something right.

Erotica is the little sister of porn, at least in my opinion. Madonna sung an entire song about erotica. Erotica is more sensual, with a build up to what is considered lovemaking and a satisfying climax (no pun intended) in the end. There are more times in an erotic story, novel or movie when the presence of condoms is mentioned, which is not the case in some porn movies. Granted, there are some erotic stories in which the language can become racy, porn-style racy, but the language does not deter from the book, story or movie.

Takeaways
  • The 10th book in the Anita Blake Series is the first book that ventures into erotica.
