The online community MySpace is stirring up trouble among its users that are mothers. Many mothers are furious over the fact that MySpace has been deleting any photos that portray breastfeeding. The photos are being pulled for violating the terms of agreement, which state that any content that is offensive, illegal or violate the rights, harm, or threaten the safety of any person may be deleted. Many are wondering how images of breastfeeding fits into those terms.

As a virtual protest many mothers have begun changing their user pictures to that of nursing babies. The breastfeeding mothers claim that nursing is not offensive at all, and that by being more public about it they are helping to normalize something that has been hidden under a cloud of shame for years. Many feel that the sexualization of the female breast makes it difficult for many to see a difference between using the breast for sex and using the breast for its intended purpose, which is to feed a child. This is on top of an already diminished view of breastfeeding held from the early 1950s when doctors often told women that their milk was not good enough and many families felt that formula created by science was a better choice.

The debated over breastfeeding photos has sparked a fire among those who support breastfeeding in public and those who feel it is disgusting. Many mothers who have breastfeeding photos are finding themselves attacked by those who feel that the breast is a purely sexual object. Hate filled messages are being sent out to many mothers on MySpace for sharing their breastfeeding photos, some are going as far as reporting every photo that the mothers have on their account often resulting in all of the photos deleted by MySpace.

My wife's girlfriend told her she wanted her to watch while she breastfed her baby.My wife suggested I ask her if I could taste her breastmilk. What's wrong with that. She was disguested, and said I should find a prostiture who was nursing,as in her opinion breastfeeding is only between the mother and the baby.My wife couldnt have children, and hence she couldnt breastfeed me.Alas!

All I'm going to say It's my baby its my breast milk. If you don't like me breast feeding then fine thats you. I just think its kinda shitty that people can call us out for breast feeding OUR babies but If i was to say to gay men/women holding hands is gross I would be the worst person on the earth and have a tribe of gays on my ass. Its better to ignore the ignorance of people and do what is best for our babies. I'm a VERY PROUD BREAST FEEDING MOTHER! I'm blessed to be able to breast feed my baby. (I'm not against gays i'm just using it for a ex.)

Gillian - "anyone who has a problem with this simply feels bad that they havn't worked so hard to be as loving to thier babies". Jake - "You are perpetuating the myth that if a mother doesn't breast feed they don't love their children as much as someone who does" Gillian - "Who has said it is a myth?" Show me some proof that non-breast fed babies are loved less than mother's who breast feed. Your opinions are disgraceful.

My own mother says she will leave and take a walk when I breastfeed my baby. Baby is to be born in December when it's very cold outside but she'd rather go for a walk in those temperatures than to stay in with my and baby where it's warm! I think it would be wonderful if there were even more attention brought to the fact that breastfeeding is NOT disgusting and NOT shameful. It's the best food for Baby. That should be ok.

BREASTFEEDING IS ESSENTIAL. MOTHERS SHOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK.FEED YOUR BABY WHENEVER & WHEREVER YOU FEEL LIKE.

I think breastfeeding is beautiful. It is the most beautiful example of bonding between a child and mother. I think people need to grow up and look at it as the beautiful thing it is.

I have never heard of health advantages of formula, (i have studied to be a supporter)just advantages making feeding/going out etc easier for the mother, breastmilk is perfect, or as perfect as you can possibly get for your baby, what is more perfect than breatmilk?the "toxins" are so minute they can't harm your baby, if you don't smoke, don't do drugs, eat and drink well it's fine and if you take your baby for a walk everyday they get thier vit d.

There are health disadvantages and advantages for both formula and breast milk. Breast milk is best overall as it contains immunity unlike formula and contains enzymes etc. Though people assume that because its natural it is perfect but nothing is perfect. Not these days anyway breast milk contains toxins, may lack vitamin D and there is research adults who were formula fed for 4 months or longer have stiffer arteries as well as other studies. Though breast is best for immunity. So as well as the hundreds of advantages of breast milk there are advantages to formula feeding as well, but research is research take it or leave it.

OK that is very picky, i was generalising, as a LOT more men think breasts are for themselves, i obviously meant breasts are designed for babies not sexual pleasure, that isn't the main point at all and i'm not being sexist, i enjoy them on women too!! The main reason i think the pics are not allowed up is because "people" are jelous of babies sucking on breasts and it makes them feel wrong when they see the real reason women have breasts, they want to believe they are for them only which is ignorant in itself i agree. Still breastfeeding my gorgeous daughter at 15 months.

let's not turn this into a gender issue, I'm a bloke, I think photos of breast feeding should be allowed up on myspace but saying things like boobs are for babies not men and men can share but babies come first is ignorant and borderline misandry. It's not just men who have a sexual interest in breasts a few of my lesbian friends are quite fond of them aswell so let's keep on topic. The reason breast-feeding photos are not allowed up on a networking sites is not because of men it's because of ignorance full stop.

Obviously if the mother isn't there then that's fair enough, a rare and valid reason to feed formula, yes that father could love their baby as much, he has no choice, he isn't choosing not to give breastmilk because it's easier for him so he could be just as loving. I don't hate people who don't breastfeed.Pity breastmilk from milk banks is so expensive, there are other choices before formula, but some are difficult and expensive. Formula is the easy option all around.Any other daft comments? I can't take on the world and argue with everyone, we are a dying breed, breastfeeding will die out as the world becomes more hedonistic, greedy, selfish and ignorant, believing the cow and gate company is friendly, how nice they are giving away free stuff and giving advice, duh!!
