Ooops. American Idol, Phone Sex Number Mix Up

Anoop Desai entered the 13 person American Idol run-off as the wild card, number 13. According to eonline! The phone number to vote for American Idol contestant number 13 didn't connect to American Idol at all, but to a phone sex line.

Ryan Seacrest seems to have broke the story when he Twittered this morning that he called the 1-866-IDOLS-13 number and was offered phone sex.

Oopsy. Hasn't American Idol had phone number trouble before? At least then it wasn't the kind to distract viewers from their original intent.

How many will be led astray in their quest to vote for Anoop Desai?

The quick fix: American Idol producers are working on a one-time phone in number for contestant number 13. Eonline! reports that dialers will have to be especially careful tonight.

A phone number mix up on American Idol causes a lot of potential problems. Idol voters are not known for their accuracy in dialing. America's entire phone grid could be shut down tonight if American Idol voters run amuck.

This kind of mix up creates a plethora of problems for luck, or unlucky, number 13. Who knows how a contest without a phone problem would have turned out? That question may never be answered because viewers who half-way listen may call the IDOL number and add the 13 to the end, winding up in a sex chat.

Interestingly, Ryan Seacrest, commented that the woman on the phone sex line "doesn't even sound hot." Interesting. We have not yet determined whether Seacrest is a reliable source to make that observation. We'll leave it to errant voters to make that determination.

The sweet irony of technological screw-ups. The American Idol, phone sex switch-a-roo couldn't have occurred at a better time. Tonight American Idol contestants will perform songs made famous by the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.

No one could have planned a better ironical twist for publicity. Or could they? Or did they? We'll never know.

Hey, Ryan, maybe it's Michael Jackson on the other end of the phone line.

Breaking later in the day, Seacrest posted on Twitter that 1-866-IDOLS-00 was also "naughty." Is he looking for this stuff professionally or for fun?
