Ways to Make Reading Fun for Your Child

Reading to your children can enhance their love of reading. Books will open up a whole new world for your child and get their imagination going. By learning to read your child can be taken on journeys around the world. They can even travel to the past or the future all inside of their
heads. There is more that you can do for your child than just reading to them. Make reading not only fun but interactive.

When reading to your child try giving characters in the book their own unique voice. Use your regular voice for the narrative but for any dialogue the characters have pick a unique voice for them. If the character is funny use a funny voice. If the character is the villain then make your voice deep and dark for the villain. This will keep the book fun and interesting for your child.

If your child knows how to read you can make a book really fun and interactive for your child. Pick characters that each of you can portray. You play the part of narrator and then you and your child pick who plays the villain and who plays the hero. From there split up the rest of the characters. Then when your character has a speaking part or you character is thinking you read that part and the same goes for your child.

This can be done with even young children who can not read yet. Find a book that you can your child will enjoy and read that book to your child. Once you are done reading make puppets out of paper bags to represent the characters in the book. Work with your child on remembering their part in the play you will be putting on with the puppets. Don't worry if your child don't get it completely right. The point of this is to have fun. Now you can invite a friend or two of yours over and have them sit in the audience with your spouse and put on play with your child. This will help bring the characters to life for your child not to mention giving your child a chance to shine in the spotlight for friends and family.
