In this lyrical romantic comedy, Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore create a humorous and loveable storyline. These two are a loveable duo together as they create a song and movie full of romance, music, and laughter. There is a definite burst of chemistry there. In the opening 80's inspired video, Hugh Grant is Alex Fletcher, a member of the once famous pop band from the eighties, called "Pop!". Alex Fletcher was once a total stud and a hit with all of the women and his beautiful eighties hair-do, but now he only remains a washed up "has-been". His manager, Chris Riley (Brad Garrett from "Everybody Loves Raymond"), hooks him up with several different acts where Alex can perform his once hit songs: at reunions, amusement parks, and state fairs. He thrives on all of his fans of the past who now all happen to be women hitting menopause in their 30's and 40's.
Then Alex receives his big break to finally make his big comeback! A cross between Shakira and Britney Spears, Cora, (newcomer: Haley Bennett), is the new pop music sensation of the 21st century. She once adored the red hot Alex Fletcher, and wants him to write a new song for her upcoming album. Except Alex only has one problem-he can't write and he only has a few days to complete the task. What's a washed up star to do ? He must find a lyricist. -SOON.
After meeting with a few insane lyricists, and trying to come up with his hit song, Alex meets up with Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), who happens to be taking the place of one of his plant ladies at his apartment. As he is busy composing, she quietly sings and offers a few lines of her own,. Out of her own surprise, Alex immediately falls for her lyrical lines, and makes her an offer to help him create his song. With a bit of fear, and some hesitation, Sophie politely refuses, but with some help from her sister, and a push from Alex, Sophie finally accepts his offer. Together, spending day and nite without a moment's sleep, they compose a hopeful hit in progress.
