Attempted robbery ends in a three alarm fire that went on for hours. This incident which started around 2pm this afternoon was a little to close to home for me; as the helicopters started hovering over top of my town home and the smell of smoke begun to fill the air. I put on my coat to take a walk

to see what all the commotion was.

I was astonished to find out that our local liquor store was on fire. Then as I started investigating I was quite alarmed to hear the possibility of the owner being injured. Especially, since I personally know the owner and several of the stores employees. In fact I had just stopped in the store last night and had engaged in one of the many chats I always do when I stop in there. Of course rumors always fly when you have an entire neighborhood standing around.

So I got closer to the situation and ask a more reliable source the channel 9 news camera man who was there recording the fire as it evolved. From this source I obtained that there was a possible robbery attempt, a stand off and then the fire broke out.

At this point I was still quite upset not knowing whether or not the owner or any of the store employees were inside. I was also a little nervous after hearing the sounds of the liquor bottles exploding, watching part of the building actually collapsing plus being rained on by the ashes so I decided to leave and wait until more information was actually released on the local news.

An hour later the news was reporting on the incident, the news certainly put my mind and heart at ease when I heard the owner was not inside. As NBC 4 reports the alleged thief entered the store and ordered the owner out of the store. The owner then left and entered one of the local stores next to the liquor store and called police.

Apparently when police arrived and tried to apprehend the suspect shots were exchanged. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the liquor store and shortly after is when the fire started. The liquor store as well as the entire shopping center is completely destroyed. The suspect was still reported as being inside during the fire and his body has not been recovered. Local officials are still investigating.
