Sony's comic-book adaptation starring Nicolas Cage as a motorcycle stunt driver called "Ghost Rider," has stormed up the box office this weekend to take top spot. Cage plays a stunt driver, who happens to have a sideline from his day job as a collector of evil souls for the devil.

The film has debuted as the top weekend movie with $44.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Satan's bounty hunter has taken moviegoers on one hell of a ride as it were. The critics pretty much wrote film from hell off. The moviegoers had something different to say about that. The film continues Hollywood's winning streak with comic-book adaptations genre.

The comic adaptation has successfully transcended into Hollywood greatness and in doing so sees another smash hit for the 43-year-old Cage. It stars Peter Fonda as Mephistopheles, Eve Mendes as Roxanne Simpson, and Nic Cage as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider. Mark Steven Johnson who also is accredited for the screneplay directs the film. Cage sizzled and steams up the highways literally like a bat out of hell.

The triumph for Nic Cage has added to a long list of box office successes. The World Trade Center saw Cage deliver a power portrayal of one of 911's true heroes John McLoughlin. An ordinary man who on September 11 found himself face to face with American's worst nightmare come true. Nic Cage followed up his heartfelt role as Edward Malus in the Wicker Man.

Cage has a special ability for choosing off beat characters to portray just as well as he does the characters that we love and can never forget. It is very safe to say that he's got the unforgettable role locked down in the "Ghost Rider." Cage's character is based on the Marvel character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze who gave up his soul to become a hell-blazing vigilante. He does so to fight against the power ambitious Blackheart who is in fact the son of the devil himself.
