First there was the Real World, then came Survivor, then the Surreal Life, The Flavor of Love and now, I Love New York! What has our world come to when we think that strangers being forced to live together and on the brink of killing each other is entertainment.Have you ever heard something or watched something that was so ridiculous that you couldn't help but continue to listen or watch? Well, don't feel condemned, because I've been there and done that myself.
In 2005 when I heard that Public Enemy's front man Flavor Flav had a reality television show, I couldn't help but be curious as to what the premise of the show was. Myself along with hundreds of thousands of others checked out VH1's, The Flavor of Love. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There was a large group of women from all walks of life all competing for Mr. Flavor Flav's affections.
The show consisted of Flav basically kissing, groping and who knows what else to a bunch of woman who claimed to be looking for love. The majority of these woman were in the entertainment business or just in search of their 15 minutes of fame. It was a literal circus, but there was one woman who stood out in the crowd. This woman seemed to be head over heels in love with Flav for real.
You guessed it; Ms. New York was in the house. Her continual declaration of undying love and overly jealous nature caused her to ultimately lose the competition. If that wasn't bad enough, she came back again for yet another session of humiliation with the Flavor of Love , part two, when once again she was left standing in the rain as Flav's second choice.
Ms. New York's humiliation was short lived because television executives offered the drama queen an opportunity to extend her 15 minutes of fame and host her own show; I Love New York. This show is just a continuation of the Flavor of Love, but for men instead of women. The men are a group of wanna be rappers, comedians and actors that have nervous breakdowns, psychotic outburst and self esteem issues.
