So you want to quit smoking? It's not an easy task, and will probably be one of the hardest things you have ever had to do. The first thing you want to do is completely rid your house of any cigarette
s, ashtrays or anything that even reminds you of cigarettes. Wash your sheets and all your clothes to get rid of the tobacco smell. Open the windows and spray air freshener in your house, you need to completely rid your home of any trace of tobacco. I would also recommend quitting on a weekend, as the stress of work often leads to lighting up again. Also try to stay away from any of your smoking friends or family members when they are smoking, as seeing someone else smoke is the ultimate relapse trigger. Tell them to smoke outside or if you take a drive with them tell them not to smoke in your car.

The first three or four days are usually the hardest. Chewing gum or candy helps some and exercise definitely helps also. If you have any hobbies that take your mind of smoking that is a plus. Basically the object is just to completely do your best to put it out of your mind and if the idea of smoking does pop into your mind you have to have enough will power not to smoke. When this happens try reading about the dangers of smoking, and what exactly it does to your lungs and your overall health. Try to avoid drinking alcohol at least for the first month or so as alcohol tends to decrease your will power and judgment. Then you'll think you j can have just one cigarette and the next day you'll end up smoking like you were before you quit.

There are lots of benefits to quitting smoking, it will be easier to breathe, food will taste better and you will be able to run and do exercises without as much difficulty. Your sense of smell will be a lot stronger, you and your house won't stink of cigarettes, and you will find you have a lot more energy then you did before you quit. The risk of diseases like lung cancer drops significantly and also the risk of having a heart attack and other types of cancers. There are many illness that smoking causes, and like it says on a pack of cigarettes sometimes "Quitting smoking now greatly reduces serious risk to your health."
