Duct Tape Craft Project

This simple and contemporary Duct Tape dinner placemat is a fun craft project that both kids and adults can do. Duct tae comes in so many colors today and really lends itself well to quite a few fun and u
nique craft projects.

All you need is some Duct Tape in any color you want and a little time! The finished product is so nice that this simple Duct Tape placemat would even make a unique and industrial hostess gift for anyone who loves a contemporary look!

To make these simple Duct Tape placemats you will need:

Duct Tape (1 -2 colors)

Scissors

Ruler or tape measure

The first step to making this simple Duct Tape placemat is to cut your Duct Tape for the craft project. You can make your Duct Tape placemat any size that you want, but I like to make mine at least 12 inches deep and 18 inches wide. This way you can see some of the hard work you put into the Duct Tape craft project even when you plate is sitting on it.

By the way, my Duct Tape is 2 inches wide. This is really the best size for this Duct Tape craft project, but you can always experiment with any size Duct Tape you want!

Now, if you are using my measurements, then cut 8 pieces of ribbon to 28 inches long. Now, cut 6 pieces of ribbon to 40inches long.

Fold each piece over on itself to cover the back sticky side. This will make the lengths now 14 inches and 20 inch pieces of duct tape.

Now, I like to go ahead and lay out the horizontal piece on a flat work surface I do not mind taping to. Lay all of your 6 pieces of Duct Tape that are 20 inches long out like a rectangle. They should all match up on the ends and just touch each other.

Now, tape the ends down on each side. Only tape in one-inch from the ends. If you go any farther than you will be taping on the surface of your Duct Tape placemat. Use some masking tape to hold these ends down. It is easy to remove.

Now, start working your vertical strips of Duct Tape in like you are weaving a basket.

Basically, start at the left bottom corner, right inside of the masking tape.

Tear off a small piece of tape. Take on of your 14-inch pieces of Duct Tape and weave it in and out while you keep it all the way to the left.
