Beach Themed Home Decor: Driftwood Lamp
How to Make a Beach Themed Lamp Out of Drift Wood
I often see unusual and creative shapes of driftwood washing up at the beach. If you are trying to incorporate a beach theme décor into your home, then you have to make this Drift Wood lamp base.
I find Drift Wood all the time at the beach, but if you do not live near the beach, then try making this lamp out of unusual wood you find in the forest.
Go for beach driftwood that is substantial in shape and size, those twigs and sticks will not cut it.
You can buy a small light lamp kit at almost any arts and craft stores as well as at most hardware store. Generally you should expect to pay about $10 to $15 for the lamp kit. You need to provide your own small accent lampshade, light bulb, and lamp base!
To Make a Lamp Out of Drift Wood You Will Need:
Drift Wood
Saw (optional)
Sand Paper (optional)
Power Drill
Drill Bit
Lamp Kit
Ok, so you are going to need to make your piece of driftwood stable so it can stand up like a lamp. Take your driftwood and turn it vertically. Cut a straight end off one side to make the base. Be sure to leave the other end natural as you found it.
Now, the first step is to take your power drill, with the drill bit, and drill a small hole in the Drift Wood. You want this hole to be right straight down through the middle of your driftwood. You may need an extra long drill bit.
Now, from the back you need to drill in a side hole to meet this middle vertical hole.
This is where the electrical cord will be coming out of your Drift Wood lamp. If you have this cord coming out from underneath your Drift Wood your lamp will not be stable or sturdy.
Install you lamp kit follow their instructions. Each lamp kit product will be different and it is best to use their specific instructions. Run your electrical cord out of the hole in the bottom of your Drift Wood.
Add a light bulb and a lampshade and you are set!
Tips:
-Don't limit yourself to Drift Wood. You can always check with local carpenters and wood workers for unusual sources of wood.
