When it comes to college football, the SEC conference is still the clear runaway winner when it comes to recruiting. In 2007, the SEC dominated the recruiting boards once again, earning 7 of the top 10 classes in the entire country, according to rivals.com. Names like Eric Berry, Caleb King, Terra
nce Toliver, Brandon Hicks, Kerry Murphy, and Chris Culliver will soon go from being local high school heroes to being mentioned on Sportscenter as possible Heisman candidates or early entry NFL Draft prospects.

We must face it. The talent in the South (especially, but not limited to the states of Florida and Texas) is clearly surpassing the talent from anywhere else in the country. You have the occasional California's and Ohio's out there, but the southern states, especially Florida, are simply becoming breeding grounds for top tier football talent.

The SEC conference alone received 12 different 5* commits and 111 different 4* commits! To put that into perspective, there were only 35 total 5* commits in the entire 2007 class, and 1/3 of them enrolled at SEC schools. It's no surprise that once the Buckeyes stepped onto the same field as the Gators they had no idea what was about to hit them (both figuratively and literally). Excluding powerhouse USC, I truly believe that at this moment you could assemble an all-freshman team of only SEC commits and put them on the field with any Pac-10 starting team, for example, and they would be able to compete at the highest level with that team (not necessarily win, but yes, make it worth watching).

This is how incredibly strong the SEC has become and any team looking to recruit in the southern states against an SEC school would be very hard-pressed to survive. So for all of the sports broadcasters/journalists, etc. that were questioning the toughness of the SEC when compared to other conferences leading up to the National Title game, look at the numbers. Whether it be the number of stars, number of wins, number of pro prospects, etc. Because the numbers, in the end, DO NOT LIE.

Here is my list of the SEC's top 10 coaches, and top 10 sleeper recruits (and occasional "reasons why"):
