Contemporary Placemats You Can Paint Yourself

Contemporary Copper Placemats are a fun way to add a little sparkle and color in a contemporary way to your dinner table. You can make the Contemporary Copper Placemats using metallic paint glazes that most people would thin k to put on the wall.

Metallic glaze are the easiest way to create dramatic metallic look on your Contemporary Copper Placemats. This is a simple project; you don't need to have any experience with glazing or even painting.

There are a few differ coats of paint in this Contemporary Metallic Placemats project, so you will need a few days to complete the entire contemporary craft project. You won't be working all day, but the drying paint will take some time.

To Paint a Contemporary Metallic Placemat You Will Need:

Canvas Place Mats

Terra Cotta Colored Fabric Paint

Copper Glaze

Paint trays

Painter's Tape

Paintbrushes

Paint Rollers

The first step when applying any type of copper glaze to a placemat or fabric is to choose the right base coat of fabric paint.

This is the most important part of the entire Contemporary Copper Placemats project and I cannot stress this to you enough.

You need to paint the canvas placemat with a base coat of terra cotta colored fabric paint in a color that will complement the copper glaze.

This step is so important you cannot skip it.

The second most important step in applying a faux copper paint treatment to your placemat is to know that less is more. This means less glaze. You wan to work in small layers and add moor copper glaze as needed.

Now, to get started you simply roll on the base coat of the terra cotta fabric paint in the appropriate color. Allow this paint color to dry.

Tip: You should always wash the canvas placemat before hand. This will allow the fabric to shrink if it is going to.

Now, roll on the copper glaze with a foam roller. You could also paint it on with a soft bristled paintbrush in an X motion. The great thing about a faux copper paint treatment that uses glaze is that glaze can often stay wet a little longer than traditional paint, which extends the time you have to work with it on the contemporary placemat.
