Looking for a fun craft project that will help young kids anticipate the arrival of their new baby brother or baby sister? This simple diaper bag craft project is the perfect to help younger children get involved with the arrival of a new sibling.

Kids can make this simple diaper bag craft project all on their own and give it to their new baby brother or baby sister when they arrive! This simple diaper bag is perfect for helping kids feel like they are already a part of their new sibling's life.

This diaper bag craft project should cost you less than $6 per child, maybe less if you already have left over craft materials.

To get started making your own diaper bag you will need:

1 Pillowcase per child

Ribbons (for handles)

Velcro (self adhesive kind)) optional

Metal Snaps or zipper (optional)

Fabric paint this will keep any decorations like paints and markers form leaking through to the other side.

4 Buttons per bag

Needle

Heavy Duty Thread

Cardboard

Puff fabric paint

Glitter

Fabric Glue

Googly eyes, pipe cleaner, buttons and other miscellaneous craft materials for embellishing

Tip: If you want you can really use a real, but plain diaper bag and let the kids decorate it for you!

The first thing you need to do when making your own diaper bag is to go ahead and attach the handles to the pillowcase.

You might want to do this before hand so that impatient kids can go ahead and start decorating their diaper bags. To attach the handles I like to cut two pieces of ribbon, wide ribbon works best, about 10 inches long.

Attach them to the bag with a needle and thread. Kids can easily do this themselves. Buy larger metal needs, with large eyes. This will help ids thread the needle.

You could also use two grommets on each side of the diaper bag. Now, tie ribbon or rope through the holes as handles. You can buy grommet kits at any craft or fabric store.

Takeaways
  • Wash the pillow case before you let the kids start this fun craft project.
  • This craft will really make the kids feel important.
  • Go ahead and attach the handles to the pillowcase.
