Organization and planning for a wedding is essential to making sure that the wedding day goes well and as smoothly as possible. It is important to remember that no matter what happens on the special day it is a celebration of the union of two people. The focus of the wedding should be the couple. With a DIY wedding the couple and helpers will need to be organized since normally a wedding planner would not be hired to handle all the details of the wedding.

Organization and Planning Essentials #1: Wedding Calendar or Planner

There are so many aspects of a wedding to plan. It is easiest for most couples to have a calendar or planner that is specifically for the wedding planning and organization. Make sure to include payment dates, contact information and other important information on the calendar or planner to avoid later having to find different pieces of paper with all of this information.

Organization and Planning Essentials #2: Allow Time

It is essential to allow time for events when planning a wedding. Set the wedding date far enough in advance to allow time for planning all the different aspects of the wedding. Allow for planning appointments such as flower selection, printing invitations, ring selection and other aspects of the wedding. Often couples become stressed because not enough time was allotted for different appointments and the couple becomes rushed.

Organization and Planning Essentials #3: Make Lists

Many people find that it is easiest to stay organized with lists. Make lists of tasks that need to be attended to for the wedding. Prioritize lists and be flexible to change the order as the tasks unfold. It is best to have one main list of all the different things that might need to be done for the wedding. Each day select a few of the tasks from the main list to focus on and complete.
