Black Snake Moan - Whats the Buzz!!

Black Snake Moan coming out in March of 2007 stars Samuel L Jackson and Christina Ricci. From the directer of "Hustle & Flow" this movie is another look at a southern musician who tries saving someone from self destruction and in the process saves himself.

Christina Ricci shines in one of her best performances in a long time playing Rae, the lost soul in need of saving. She is awesome as a white trash sex pot with a reputation for being a nymphomaniac.

Samuel L Jackson plays Lazarus, a former blues guitarist who goes to the extreme trying to "save" Rae and what he believes as her sinful and immoral lifestyle.

Found beaten on the side of the road Lazarus, a God-fearing man, finds the young white women he is healing has had a problematic past in which she has been raped as a child, unloved by her mother, used and abused by many men. She sets her sights on Ronnie (played by Musician Justin Timberlake) but her hopes of better times are shortened as Ronnie is sent off to boot camp. Rae is forced to go back to the one thing she knows best to survive, her sexuality. Refusing to have sex with her Lazarus uses extreme measures to "cure "Rae. After chaining her to his radiator he justifies his non-traditional methods with quoted scriptures. Eventually Lazarus has to open his own heart and work through his own inner demons, while helping to heal Rae.

Supporting characters in the movie are only enhanced by singer-rapper Justin Timberlake, S. Epatha Merkerson, and John Cothran. Although the movie is mostly formed around the two main characters, it is best during the intense confrontations between them. It is emotionally charged with heartache, pain, sex, and love.

After premiering at this year's Sundance Film Festival, the critics were split down the middle on their reviews. They either liked it or didn't. There has been some complaints of the movie being to long at 118 minutes for the story it has to tell and some moments are said to be a little over the top.
