Waiting Will Make You Laugh
For anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant as a server, cook, or hostess; this movie was made for you. The movie is about a Shenanigan’s, a restaurant where the wait staff is a mix of crazyDean is now questioning if he is going down the right path, Dean’s friend Monty (Ryan Reynolds) is in the same boat but just doesn’t care. Monty is more concerned with partying and hooking up than with having any real goals.
Monty is put in charge of training Mitch, a shy new employee and the newest member of Shenanigan’s crew. The training session is one chaotic event after another as Mitch meets the rest of the misfit crew, Monty’s tough talking ex, Serena (Anna Faris), Shenanigan’s want-to-be cool guy manager Dan (David Koechner) and head cook Raddimus (Luis Guzman), who teaches Mitch all about “The Game” that the male staff likes to play.
I absolutely loved this movie, it was hysterical, but I think to really enjoy this movie you have to have worked in a restaurant. If you have then you know how dead on all of these characters are, from the crazy manager who believes he is all powerful but truly longs to hang out with all the younger workers.
You have the kitchen staff of wild and crazy guys who hate their job and will make you pay if you mess with them. My personal favorite is Monty the man whore server that gets all the girls, even the underage ones.
In high school and college I worked as a server, and I have to say at least 90% of this movie is all true. In this restaurant you have incompetent bus boys, a wild mix of servers, a power crazed manager, and the kitchen guys who start watching the clock praying no one comes in 5 minutes before close.
