The problem and the strange benefit of DVDs is that the filmmakers are constantly releasing new versions in new packages of the movies. The questions has to become, are these newer versions worth it? Is the ultimate, super, duper, gigantic director's ultra-cut version of "Titanic" really going to bring something to the table that the previous editions didn't? Most of the time the stuff that is brought is only for those who either love the film to a disturbing degree or to the kind of people, like me, who are such film buffs that any new morsel about how the movie was made is worthwhile and is something I must get.

Well, there is a new 2-Disc Platinum Edition of the Disney Classic "Peter Pan" set to hit stores. Folks, if you love movies and you love this one then this is one you simply will have to shell the money out for. There is enough here to delight the children who may have not seen the movie before and enough extra magic to delight those of you who have seen this movie a thousand times.

The movie "Peter Pan" was a story beloved by Walk Disney himself. His first favorite fairy tale was Snow White which is why it became one of his first feature-length animated movies. "Peter Pan" was not made until the 1950s but this DVD shows you exactly why it took as long as it did. Walt put so much loving care into this adaptation of J.M. Barrie's play from 1904 that it had to take that long just to be right.

The actual movie has been lovingly digitally restored. This means that each frame was gone over with a computer and digitally cleaned. It is a painstaking process and one that simply cannot be done fast enough for many older films as the older film-stock slowly deteriorates. The sound is now also 5.1 digital surround sound. In short, this is a version that is as close as it will ever be, perhaps better, than the original version seen in theaters in 1953. So, if you have kids and they have not seen this movie this would be the version to show them.

Takeaways
  • This digital restoration is fantastic.
  • The extras on this DVD are very well worth it.
  • This is a DVD worth the investment
