Easy Homemade Foil Works for Scrapping

Foil embellishments give an elegance to scrapbook pages like no other embellishment, but putting foil on your pages comes with its own set of problems. Firstly, foil embellishments aren't cheap. A small pack of foil tags, for example, can cost over five bucks. Then, you use a couple of the pieces an
d end up with others, which you've paid for, but might not ever use. That's because scrappers like to make each page unique rather than use the same embellishment on many different pages.

Eliminate all those problems, save a lot of money, and still have lots of foil enhancements for your scrapbook pages by simply making your own foil creations. It's very easy to do with today's new foil colors which can be found in some supermarkets and most craft stores. And, if you don't want to pay for colored foil, you still have the option of just using ordinary aluminum foil from your kitchen cabinet.

Foil embellishments are generally embossed with ridges, swirls, initials, characters or other depictions, so the first thing you'll need to do is to gather items from around the house, which have rough or unique surfaces. Some ideas might be a piece of wood, a cheese grater, silverware pieces, spatulas and other kitchen utensils, jar lids, small picture frames, plastic cake icing tips, or even something like a woven basket. Anything that has a unique surface should be transferrable to your foil.

You'll first decide on the approximate size of the foil you'll be embossing. If you'll be making a nameplate, for instance, cut the square, oval, circle or other shape from uncreased foil. Starting with a fresh roll, and cutting each needed piece with scissors, will make the embellishments turn out perfectly.
