Heartburn is an extremely uncomfortable state to be put in by one's body. Being pregnant can make one especially victimized by this phenomenon. Heart burn, fortunately, is not incurable. In fact, there are very simple steps one can go through so that heartburn no is no longer a plaguing issue. The w
ays to get rid of heartburn are as follows.

Control What you Eat

The first step to take when dealing with heartburn is to take a good look at your current diet. There are many items consumed on a daily basis which you may not be aware of and which can easily trigger heartburn. Some foods and drinks are the main culprit of heartburn and can easily be avoided. Anything acidic is going to increase decrease the pH in your stomach, thus causing an overflow of an already acidic environment. Acidic foods and drinks include anything which is citric. Lemons, oranges, grapefruits, and limes are all examples of highly citric fruits which can immediately induce heartburn. Caffeine and carbonation are also often the culprit in heartburn cases. When one drinks a soda or a cup of coffee, the amount of acid in the stomach is increased, and thus all modes of digestion are interrupted, including acid production. Also, spicy foods and fried and fatty foods can cause your digestion to become out-of-whack enough to create heartburn symptoms.

Alcohol

Alcohol is very hard for the body to digest. Not only can it cause immediate heartburn, but it is so harsh on your esophagus that it can even cause long-term issues correlated with heartburn. Also, alcohol consumption can lead to inflammation of the pancreas. This pancreatic irritation produces the same sensations as heartburn.

Smoking

Because smoking is not something which seems to have anything to do with food consumption, it is often over-looked when determining the cause of heartburn. This is a big mistake. Smoking is not only something which suppresses one's appetite, but it also increases the amount of acid which is produced by the stomach. Stomach acid surging up the esophagus is the main reason for heartburn symptoms, and cigarette smoking can cause a host of problems associated with heartburn.
