Your Playstation console might be gathering dust in a closet somewhere, but the games don't have to be. With two new generations of consoles that gladly boot up and run anything Sony pushed out the door in the last 12 years, you can guarantee that there are hundreds of gems that you're missing out on. The Playstation saw the introduction of countless franchises and companies that today make some of the best games in the world. But for those that didn't own a Playstation way back when or didn't take the time to play every amazing game that made its way down the pipe, you're seriously missing out.

Fighting games were a place for pushing boundaries of things like blood and violence, and the technology that supported that blood and violence. With the Playstation console, Sony was finally able to bring home to fans the fully realized 3D action of the arcade fighters in games like Tekken and many more. Fighters were longer 2D face offs with projectiles, but combo-centric battles with infinite numbers of moves. The result was a whole new take on the fighting genre. Of course the 2D fighter found a new home for itself as well, exploiting the space on the new CDRom format to house more characters, secrets, and hidden moves than ever before.

Tekken 3 - The original Tekken was one of the first breakthroughs with Virtua Fighter that took fighters into the third dimension. Being a first generation Playstation game made it a little lacking in the graphical department and to be honest the game wasn't fully fleshed out, but by the time Tekken 3 rolled around, Namco had all their bits and pieces checked and fixed and one of the best fighting games ever was available for the Playstation. The game was not only a flawless 3D fighter for its time, it looked damn pretty. The options when it came to combos were incredible and the character roster was getting bigger and bigger. In 1998, this was one good reason to own a Playstation.
