The name French toast can be misleading since French toast is not really a toast but more of a bread that is fried in a pan.

French toast is a good breakfast food. French toast is nutritious and tasty. French toast is easy to make and quick for the person that doesn't have a lot of time to spend on making breakfast. The name French toast can be misleading since French toast is not really a toast but more of a bread that is fried in a pan.

To make four pieces of French toast all you will need:

A loaf of bread. The bread can be white or wheat but a soft bread is better. Wheat bread is more nutritious but my family prefers white bread since it tends to taste better in French toast.

An egg or if you want the French toast to be heart healthy you can use a heart healthy egg substitute.

A half cup of milk or water.

A pinch of salt.

A fry pan, large shallow bowl to dip the bread into, a spatula, a fork.

Take the shallow bowl and crack the egg into it. Then beat the egg with the folk until it is well blended with itself. Mix the water or milk into the egg mixture and add the salt. Beat this mixture up well and if you would like you can add a half teaspoon of ground cardamom or a half teaspoon of cinnamon at this time.

Heat the fry pan up at a medium temperature. When the pan is hot add a good amount of olive oil to coat the pan with. Quickly take a slice of the bread and dip it into the egg mixture. Then flip the bread over on the other side in the egg mixture and put the bread into the hot pan of olive oil. You have to do this step a bit fast so you don't burn the olive oil.

Let the bread cook in the pan for about a minute and then flip it over onto the breads other side and let that side cook. When the bread is cooked put it on a plate and you can cook the next slice of bread.

You can put many different toppings on French toast. Butter is popular and so is maple syrup. You can also put corn syrup or jelly on French toast. Some people prefer powdered sugar. Cinnamon can be put on the top of French toast.

French toast tastes great served with other food such as bacon, or a slice of ham. French toast is an inexpensive, easy breakfast to make.
