Are you planning the most important day of your life with very little money? The norm used to be that the father of the bride would foot the bill for this special day. But today, with traditional values slipping, more and more new couples are starting their marriage in debt because their wedding day cost them a small fortune. This can lead to marital problems right from the start because of all the stress these money problems can cause. Does this mean in order to avoid these problems you have to compromise you dream wedding? The simple answer is no. Even couples who are forced to live paycheck to paycheck deserve a special day. And believe it or not it is possible as long as you know how to do it. "So how do you do it?" you ask. Here are a few ways to plan the day of your dreams without starting off your life together in debt.
1. Always shop around. There are so many things to think of when planning a wedding: the flowers, the guest favors, the place settings, the ceremony, the invitations, the reception hall, the food, the music, the cake, your dress. Every one of these things needs to be considered carefully. There is no end to suppliers of these things you will need so do not stop at the first place you find what you need. Write down the contact information and price and continue looking until you are satisfied that you have found the most inexpensive place without sacrificing quality. You will be surprised what you find when you look.
2. Use every resource available to you. Go to Bridal Expos. Look through Bridal magazines. Search the internet. Get a wedding planner. There are endless resources available to brides today and one of the biggest mistakes is to not utilize them.
3. Stay organized. There are all kinds of Wedding Planers out there. Search the bookstore for one. Sometimes you can even find a wedding planner that is free to download online. Keep up to date on all the tasks in your planner that apply to you so you don't lose money trying to buy something or book a location at the last minute. You could end up paying large fees for last minute arrangements.
4. Think outside the box. You don't have to follow old wedding traditions if they aren't your style. Keep in mind that a unique wedding will be more memorable for you as well as your guests. You could have someone close to get ordained and perform the ceremony. It saves a fee for the officiant and it makes it more personal.
5. Don't be afraid to do it yourself. Handmade guest favors and decorations are beautiful and have much more sentimental value. A good idea is to buy little white boxes, put them together yourself, possible with the Bride and Grooms names and the wedding date on them or some pretty craft ribbon tied to them. If you buy some candies in bulk and fill the boxes you have an adorable and inexpensive wedding favor. I did this for 300 guests for about $185.00, which is next to nothing compared some of the favors you will find for $2 - $5 each. And your handmade ones will be just as pretty as the expensive ones.
To sum up these are just a few ways to keep your special day low cost without sacrificing the wedding of your dreams.
