You have prepared yourself for this day by replaying it time and time again in your head. You can imagine yourself walking your child to the door of the classroom and meeting the teacher for the first time. You don't know if your child will cry or if instead of your child, you cry and embarrass you both.

You may be wondering if there is a better way to prepare your child for school other than giving them that child/parent talk about telling the teacher when something goes wrong, and to not be afraid of asking questions if you become confused.

It may or may not be a surprise to you but you can help your child to be prepared for school. A child should never stop learning even when school is not in session. You should always challenge your child's mind in a way that he will learn something new everyday.

ABC's and 123's

It may seem as though it is impossible to teach your child who is between three and four years of age, how to sing their ABC's. If you practice with them every day then they will began to memorize them. You may think that if they memorizing then they won't learn to read but It has been proven that when a child as young as two, starts to remember the order in which something goes, this child will then be able to organize it even when they are out of order.

You should always make a game out of anything that you are trying to get your child to learn. Try buying a can of ABC's soup or making pancakes out of the alphabet. Have your child to repeat each one after you and then you repeat each one after your child. Start off small and in groups of four. Your child may be able to learn and memorize things easier if you break it down in a day-today basis. Try doing four alphabet letters a day and make sure that you repeat these over and over at night before bed. There was a study done that showed a person's conscience is still working even after they have fallen asleep. The same strategy goes for counting, go for four a day. If you show your child that learning can be fun then they will want to do it to.

Once your child learns their ABC's, help them learn the sounds of each one of them. Learning the sounds will later help them to put sounds and letters together to create words.

I don't have kids but this is great advice for those who do. I used to read to my niece and nephew when they were very small. Now my niece would rather read to me to show off how good she is. She is 10 now but when she first started learning I was amazed at how good she was. Sometimes when we read a book we take turns reading to each other. She'll read the first page and I'll read the next and so on. My nephew is 18 so I never see him anymore but we used to do the same thing. With all the practice I got from them I think I would be a great mom. Great article. :)
