What Makes a True Villain in the Video Game World?
A Few Icons that Are Known as Being True Villains in the Gaming Industry
Video game heros are great, we love to root for them and aid them in their quest for glory, fame, wealth or love. But what about the foes they face along the way? Villains make up the main part of a video games story line, especially in an RPG, so what makes a truly great video game villain? Presence, purpose and attitude are a big part of what we love about the bad guys and to prove just what I mean here are a few examples of all that is good about the Villains we love to hate.Mario introduced us to an entire clan of evil doers known as the Koopas. These guys were always bent on taking over the fabled Mushroom Kingdom and taking out the Princess. The leader of the Koopas was none other then renowned Mario villain Bowser Koopa. He's nothing but an overgrown turtle, with sharp teeth but for some reason we hope for his return in each installment in the Mario series. Bowsers popularity really only comes from the fact that he is Nintendo's first true super villain. His powers are really not all that impressive and the guy takes breaks to play Tennis, Soccer and Basket Ball with his long time rival, still Bowser is a true evil doer in his own right.
Some villains make the cut just by being cocky. Starwolf from the team of the same name in the Starfox series is just that kind of villain. As you engage in dramatic dogfight after dogfight with this arrogant pilot he continually taunts you in such a way that makes victory oh so very sweet. Starwolf speaks with a British accent, almost required of an arrogant villain and the worst thing is, he's good. Playing Starfox will prove to be a tough challenge and losing may cost you more then your life as Starwolf laughs in mocking tones at your feeble attempts to defeat him and his team.
Dr. Robotnic from the original games on the Sega Genisis was changed to Eggman because that was his name from the beggining in Japan. Dr. Robotic was his American giving name.
