Spring Break: Where NOT to Go!!

~A Vacation Should End Your Stress NOT Your Life~

I have three teenage sons and two in College I worry all the time about them and their safety. So I have done a lot of research and I have came up with the places NOT to go to on Spring Break. These places are or may be very dangerous to visit, and most Spring Breakers go to places for the fun which includes drinking a lot of Alcohol. Now we all now that Alcohol impairs or judgment, and being under the influence of Alcohol we do not always make the most wise and best decisions. So with this in mind here are the places NOT to visit for Spring Break:
  • Mexico- Do Not Drive to Mexico. Cancun, Baja, Puerto Vallarta, and Acapulco are popular places for Spring Breakers to go to, because the legal drinking age in Mexico is 18. But if you do go to Mexico please fly there. The US State Department is warning anybody that is planning to go to Mexico for any reason at all should either fly or not go at all. This is because Mexico has been the main focus of on going violence surrounding by drug cartels. The US State Department strongly urges people to stay away from Nogales, Cluded Juarez, Tijuana, and Nuevo Laredo, and if you drive to Mexico from anywhere within the USA then you need to know that is it very difficult not to encounter at least on of these cities when entering. (US State Department)

  • Now what young adult or teenager does not want to go to New Orleans? Well most people no that New Orleans is America's #1 Crime Capital. Though at the year-end crime statistics for 2008, it was stated that New Orleans murder rate did drop by 31 murders less then 2007. However shop owners and residents stated that they still did not feel safe. (New Orleans, The Times-Picayune) Also according to The Times societal issues that contribute to violent crime is high poverty, poor schooling, the blight and the availability of drugs and guns. Visitors to these town are known as "Visitors", and where there are visitors there is money, jewelry, etc. for criminals to steel. So New Orleans is most defiantly not a safe place to go to for Spring Break.

  • The Bahamas is a beautiful place, but it also has a high crime rate. Bahamas in recent years has become to be known for their Tourist Crimes. There are people in the Bahamas who approach tourist and entices them into accepting a ride either as a "personal favor" or by claiming to offer Taxi services, and then robbing them and /or assaulting them. (US State Department)

  • Jamaica is an exciting place to go but it is also a high crime area. According to the US State Department gang violence and shootings occur regularly in certain areas of Kingston and Montego Bay. Crimes and violent crime, is a serious problem in Jamaica, particularly in Kingston. Valuables should be left in hotel security and women's handbags should be zipped and held close to the body. Men should carry wallets in their front pants pocket. Large amounts of cash should always be handled discreetly.

If any of the places listed above was were you were planning on going to for Spring Break, maybe you would like to take this opportunity and second guess that choice. I mean there are still plenty of Great places to go to for Spring Break like, Miami, South Beach, Panama City, Florida, or South Padre Island, Texas, or go to the Caribbean it is considered to be one of the safest places on the planet (US State Department). Now no place can guarantee total safety and being crime free. Anywhere you go there is always a chance of a crime happening, but there are places that are a lot more less likely for a crime to happen to you while you're there. So exercise caution when you go on vacation or on Spring Break. After all it is "Better a thousand times careful than once dead." (Old Chinese Proverb)

So be safe and have FUN Everyone...
