Author Jenna Glatzer, who collected stories from the Katrina disaster to be published in the book Stories of Strength, has reported a high number of donations."We're at $2,200 in donations right now," reported Glatzer. "All week I've been fielding phone calls and emails from reporters in the U.S., Canada, and the UK about this project. And my favorite review yet came in from Karen DeGroot Carter at The Compulsive Reader."
Glatzer said the world is changed by those who are willing to take small steps forward.
Bookmarks Magazine just offered Glatzer a free one-sixth page ad in their next issue for Stories of Strength.
The book is an anthology of work submitted by AbsoluteWrite.com subscribers with 100 percent of the proceeds to be donated to the Red Cross for disaster relief.
Uplifting stories of physical strength, strength of spirit, role models of strength, and the strength to start over are featured in the anthology.
Glatzer runs the Absolute Write site which features links, writers' tips, information on writing projects, workshops, classes, and other useful information for writers.
The book was published by lulu.com this month and sells for $15.95 paperback and $5.09 for e-book.
"It took a village to raise this baby," said Glatzer in a recent interview.
In the moments after Katrina Glatzer suggested to other writers in the forum of her website that a book be published and give monies generated to charity. Over 100 authors submitted prose, articles, and poetry making the book recognition of the incredible human spirit to survive, overcome, and grow.
The beginning of the book introduces the story "The Shrine," a moving story by Matthew James.
In addition, 15-year-old Kesi Augustine's story is included.
In the Role Models of Strength section a Vietnam War story is included which is described by author Carter as "a touching tribute to parents who draw strength from each other to overcome years of hardships" in "The Ace I Got Dealt" by C.J. Piperly.
Strength of Love's section goes beyond the realm of romantic love and Strength of Fiction talks about strength from different perspectives.
