Your kids can make this Easter Egg Dessert Plates craft for less than $5, probably around $3 a plate depending on what craft materials you already have. This is a fun project for kids as well as adults.
To Make Easter Egg Dessert Plates you will need:
Air Drying Clay (Like Active Clay)
Clay working tools (Or a tooth pick, pencil, paring knife...)
Pastel Acrylic Paints (Optional)
Clear Acrylic Spray Paint (Not Optional)
Embellishments, like beads, glass stones...(Optional)
Rolling pin
The first step is to cut off a piece of your air-drying clay. Roll it out to about1.2 inch thick. You can make this Easter Egg Dessert Plates as big or small as you want. I think about 8 inches wide is a very nice sized Dessert Plates. Dessert plates are traditionally a few inches smaller in diameter than dinner plates.
Now, use a toothpick to trace out your Easter Egg Dessert Plates shape. This should definitely be in the shape of a real egg. Have the kids draw their egg shapes out on paper first. They can cut the design out and trace it onto the clay.
The good thing about clay is that you can draw your Easter Egg Dessert Plates shape and if you do not like it, simply smooth it over with your finger. Once you have your Easter Egg Dessert Plates outline made, use a paring knife to cut the plate out. Remove any of the excess clay and use it for the next step.
