Dog Shampoo and Conditioner : Beating the Smelly Dog Syndrome

Keeping your dog's coat and skin clean and conditioned is an important part of his overall health. Pet owners have many choices when it comes to keeping their dogs clean. They can choose from shampoo and conditioner in one, natural shampoos and conditioners and shampoos and conditioners to treat special needs such as skin allergies or fleas. It is important to keep your dog clean so that his skin will remain healthy. If he has long hair, regular bathing and grooming will keep his coat from becoming matter, which is very uncomfortable for the dog.
To bathe your dog, put him in the bathtub or a basin. Before you begin to wet him down, put cotton balls in his ears so that you don't get water in them. Make sure that the room where you are bathing him is warm and draft-free. Check the water to make sure that it is not too hot or too cold. If you run the water over the underside of your forearm, near the wrist, the water should not feel hot or cold; you should not be able to feel the temp.
Next, wet his coat thoroughly and soap him up, avoiding his eye area, but covering his entire body, including underside, legs and tail. Some shampoos require that you let the soap sit on the coat for a moment so read the directions. Rinse the dog's coat well, paying attention to the underside, in the creases of the legs and at the hips.
Shampoo and Conditioner in One
Shampoo and conditioner in one can be very convenient because there is only one step in the dog's grooming. In a shampoo and conditioner in one both are included in one. To use this product, just wet the dog down as you are bathing him with usual shampoo products. You may have to let the lather set for a minute or two, if the instructions require it. Then rinse thoroughly. The conditioners work with the shampoo and they clean and condition the coat. The downside to these products is that the conditioning properties may not be as effective, particularly if your dog needs extra conditioning. Another problem may be that the dog's coat may not be as shiny.
