After publishing a few articles on AC, even the most devoted friend's and family tend stop paying attention to your works. Your blog tags and MySpace blasts go ignored as so much spam, and your hits counter moves up sluggishly at best with the publication of a new article.

When this lull hits, and you've come to the crushing realization that your loved ones no longer care to read your fascinating, groundbreaking articles and opinions on life in general, it's time to get down and dirty. Her are a few helpful strategies to duping your nearest and dearest into reading your work once again.

#1- The Email Chain Letter Approach
Is one of your friends or relatives fond of forwarding email chain letters? Perhaps it's an obnoxious co-worker? Well, here's your chance to put their annoying forwarding fetish to good use; create your own email chain letter to pass the word along about your work.

First, decide which type of chain letter you'd like to use, the "doom" letter, or the "happy angel" letter. Both are effective, though "happy angel" tends to work better for an older email group.

A sample "doom" chain letter you may wish to use:

"Please click this link (insert link to your article of choice) and then forward this message along to 10 friends in the next 5 minutes, or terrible tragedy will befall you. A man in Alaska who didn't look at this link, and failed to pass this on watched as his kittens and puppies died, and then was hit by a bus shortly after. TRUE STORY!!!!!"

A sample "happy angel" letter you may wish to create:

"Click on the following link (insert link to your article of choice) and then pass this along to 10 friends in the next 5 minutes, to be blessed with good luck for the rest of the year. Pass it along to 20 friends, and baby angels will reveal your true love to by the end of the week. It really works! Do it now to begin enjoying your good fortune!"

These of course, are just jumping off points. Let your creativity be your guide. Create ways to get superstitious loved ones to click two links! Get these chain letters going and watch your page views soar.

I'm sorry to hear (read) they gave you a low offer on this, the last piece I published was my first (and only) rejection I was told the subject was too common to pay for. I think I have gotten more Diggs than my other articles and the page views added up faster too

This was too funny! I haven't had the guts to spam my friends and family members yet, but I get plenty of spam from some of them, so it might be worth a shot :) Sorry they didn't give you the CSO on this one....

Carrissa, that's insane that they didn't give you more for this. It deserves a big, fat offer! I loved this article.

That was fun, and really fit into my life today. I never used to let my husband read my stuff-now that I have, pandora's box is opened and the poor guy wants OUT. I'm constantly saying "Did your read this one? What did you think of that one?" I spammed my whole address book today with an invite to read my latest published at www.commonties.com called Fears for another woman's child....and if you folks don't read it and comment nicely, your writing hand will cramp and you will get writer's block..for all time. mwahhh haa haaa.
