The middle class can be defined as not either at the top nor the bottom of a social hierarchy. That being said, I ask you where has the middle class gone?

In todays society there seems to be those who are financially stable a those who are a paycheck from disaster. Is the latter really middle class? In my opinion, no. The so called middle class hangs by a thread daily. One minor mishap could send them over the edge.

We are told to plan for the future. How is that possible when the average family is 3.14, and the average median income is $42,000. Now factor in that the average mortgage, around $800 a month or $9600 a year. That leaves roughly $32,000 left. Now they have to pay utilities, taxes, fire and homeowners insurance, car payment, car insurance, clothing and food. That is not all.

There is the cost of health insurance. This bill alone can make anyone go broke. On average it is close to $11,000 a year for insurance that will actually pay something.

They are left with little or nothing at all. These are the people in my opinion that need government assistance. Do they get it...no. They are told that they make too much money. I personally was once told to cash in my husbands life insurance policy to help us out. Now where would I be if he were gone tomorrow and I did not have that money? You guessed it, at the assistance office. The guidelines need to be reevaluated. Those who are on assistance need to be investigated.

There are millions of people out there that everyday get up, go to work, and make sure that the upper class have all that they need. Without them where would we be.

The lower class is living from day to day. Choosing heat over medication or food over electric, is not something that anyone should have to do. This is not right. Our government just seems to make it easier on the rich and the hell with the poor and middle class. There are a lot more of us and it is time to take a stand.

Contact your local, state and federal officials and make your voices heard.
