Shell Washcloth Duo - Softly Textured Crochet Washcloth Patterns
This pair of soft, textured crochet washclothes are made from shells - and it's amazing how different the textures can be from a simple shell! The result is a pair of washcloths that are subtly beautiful and work up quickly for your own bath or a gift. They make great baby shower gifts, crocheted in soft pastels and combined in a small basket with a rubber duck or baby lotion. In darker colors, they compliment your decor and add a sophisticated touch to your bath.
Skill Level: Beginner
Finished Size: Pink - 7" x 7"
White - 7.5" x 7.5"
Materials: 70 yards each pink and white sport or baby weight cotton yarn, Size F/5 3.75 MM crochet hook.
Gauge: Not important to overall size.
Pattern Note: Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Pattern Stitches
Shell: [3 dc, ch 1, {sc, hdc, dc} over side edge of 3rd dc in 3 dc group] in indicated stitch.
V-Stitch: [dc, ch 1, dc] in indicated stitch.
Thick V-Stitch: [2 dc, ch 1, dc] in indicated stitch.
Pink Shells Crochet Washcloth
With yarn color of choice (pink in the example) and size F crochet hook, chain 33.
Row 1: Double crochet in 4th chain from hook and in each chain across. Turn. (31 dc)
Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout). *Skip next 2 double crochet, Thick V-Stitch in next double crochet. Repeat from * across to the last 3 double crochet. Skip 2 double crochet, double crochet in last stitch. Turn.
Row 3: Chain 3. V-stitch in same double crochet as beginning chain 3. *Skip next 2 double crochet, single crochet in next double crochet, skip 2 double crochet, Thick V-Stitch in next double crochet. Repeat from * across. Turn.
Row 4: Chain 1, single crochet in same stitch as beginning chain 1 and in each stitch across. (31 sc)
Rows 5-9: [Repeat rows 2-4] 3 times.
Row 10: Chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch as beginning chain 3 and in each stitch across. DO NOT finish off.
Edging: Evenly space single crochet around the edge of the wash cloth, placing 3 single crochet in each corner. Join with slip stitch to first single crochet. *3 single crochet, skip 2 single crochet* around, working 3 single crochet in each corner. Finish off.

I have started, ripped out, and restarted the pink washcloth over and over again. I cannot get the stitches to come out right either. Does the chain 3 at the beginning of the row count as part of the V-stitch? the ends of my rows are not straight.

I can't get row three of the pink shel to work -- it doesn't seem to come out to 31 stiches, I keep getting like 22. The single crochet seems to throw me off.
