In the past several years we have seen a very popular trend of movies based on comic books. Really the number of comic book movies over the past decade is astounding. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Hulk, Punisher, Daredevil, Elektra, and Hellboy are just some of the comic books that have turned into movies recently. Some of these movies were really good and some were not so good but I think there is still some untapped potential in the comic book world. There are still some more comic book titles that deserve to be put up on the big screen.

Green Lantern
I mean hello people! Green Lantern is an A list comic book character and yet he has never had a movie, television show or cartoon. You can't say that about many A list characters. Superman and Batman have both had tons of movies and television shows. Flash and Wonder Woman have both had television shows and scripts for movies are being kicked around. I can understand that at one point in time maybe Green Lantern wasn't a feasible movie option because it would be hard to make the effects of his power ring look good (although that shouldn't stop them from making a cartoon about him) but by now they should be able to pull it off. I mean seriously if Hollywood can make Dr. Octopus' arms and the Transformers then they can make Green Lantern's ring, now get to it!

Takeaways
  • Green Lantern is one of the few A list comic book characters that haven't gotten a movie or TV show.
  • Deadpool would make a great action flick.
  • Runaways is one of the most original comic books i've read.

Deadpool is a classic character.I used to own every copy of his first series and his two mini series. Sold them for a couple hundred dollars a long while back.I am not sure he is my favorite character today, because I just don't pick up the Cable and Deadpool stories. He is an an incredibly detailed character, and his run-ins with Wolverine are classic. Good idea on bring in him into your article. Hope I didn't ramble on too much--nostalgia does that.

I'm not so certain Hollywood could make Green Lantern any good, yet. I don't think it's just the power ring issue. GL is generally "supposed to be" a space cop. All the aliens involved, and also the Earth bound characters would be difficult to pull off in an enjoyable 2 hour movie. (I'd hate Hollywood if they turned GL into a mockery) Meanwhile, Marvel could put out 2 or 3 strictly Earth based movies while DC was preparing GL.

Deadpool sounds like a cult following in the making, to me, although I don't know why anyone would want to look like Tom Cruise. Your article was fun, and well-written to boot. The only thing lacking was a pull-it-all-together conclusion. I think I feel a trip to the comic store coming on...

I too like the Runaways idea and think that would be a great movie. Maybe you should go on and pitch that idea to the execs. Doesn't hurt to try

Runaways seems like an interesting plot line. I don't think I've heard anything like that before. I like Gen13 and Sandman myself.
