How to Cope and Control Anger: A Guide for Parents

1. Give them journals to write in. Tell them to write in it whether they are having a sad or happy day. (I told my group they can leave it in the classroom or at home). I had the class decorate theirs with stickers or drawings with markers. 2. I gave them the worksheet Me/Not Me from Therapeutic Exercises for Children book. I gave them the example of a classmate bullying them while they were trying to help another classmate. I had them fill out the other sections on their own. I also told them they can do this worksheet in their journals or answer the questions on the worksheet. NOTE: I had to give examples of each section for my group to follow.
3. Have them discuss the worksheet in the group. It is important for them to think about how they contribute to a situation.
4. If extra time, have them continue decorating the journals.
1) Ask students what are situations that make them angry at school, cottages, and home.
2) What did you do in that situation? What could you have done differently?
3) Go over importance of having control over your feelings.
4) List positive and negative ways of controlling your emotions.
5) Go over calming techniques again, deep breathing, counting backwards
