Have you ever considered writing a novel? Think you might be able to write a great book? Many people dream of becoming a book author. Unfortunately, they often have trouble finding the time to write. Despite what some folks may believe, for most writers, the actual act of writing is hard work. It requires discipline, patience, and time.
However, it's possible to write a novel in thirty days! In fact, thousands of people sign up to do that very thing in November, when they participate in the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) competition.
But you don't have to wait until November to write your novel! You can write it any month of the year.
Just follow this simple guide, and you'll have a novel written in thirty days:
Before you begin writing...
Step 1: Develop your plot and characters. Some authors prefer to let the characters tell the story. Others outline their plot first. Do whichever is most comfortable for you, your story and your novel. But it's best to have some idea of where the story is going before you actually sit down to write. This process can take a day, a week or even longer, so you should have this finished before you start writing your novel.
Step 2: Make time. Most of us have busy schedules, making it difficult to find time to write. Look over your calendar and/or appointment book. Do you see any extra time in your schedule? Perhaps you have an hour while the kids are at soccer practice. Maybe you could wake up thirty minutes earlier. You may be able to find some extra time after the kids are in bed. Some great authors have even written during their lunch break at "real" jobs. Find a block of time for writing that's available every single day for the next thirty days.
Step 3: Get prepared. Let your family and friends know that, during your "novel writing time," you are not to be interrupted. Do whatever you can to make your writing space your own, even if it means rearranging furniture in your bedroom to create a little writing nook. If you plan to write in coffee shops or libraries, scope out the place before you start writing to ensure it offers enough privacy and quiet for your needs.
