Have you always wanted to pierce for a living or tattoo, but had no idea where to begin? How do you break into the body art industry anyway? You can't really go to school for it and there's no real way to get good
experience without the proper training. I felt this same way before catching my break a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish my apprenticeship due to a job situation, but I can provide you with all of my knowhow on getting your foot in the door.

Piercing

Piercing was my forte and what I wanted to pursue. I love piercing's and thought I would love to administer them to other people. There's really no prior knowledge you need on piercing to help you get an apprenticeship, but it would help you to study on the history of body art and piercing's (the same goes for you aspiring tattoo artists). The proper cleaning, sterilization, and procedural methods will all be a part of your training.

Tattoos

Unlike piercing's, you do need to have some kind of artist in you to be a great tattoo artist. Knowing how to draw and having natural talent will be a big help to you. Also, understanding shading and color are great assets. Other than those things, studying up on the subject of tattoos and all body art can help you grasp a better understanding for this practice. Just as with piercing, the proper cleaning, sterilization, and procedural methods will also be a part of your training, so no need to try to learn them on your own.

Some like them green

It is important if you decide to pierce or tattoo that you do not try to teach yourself. This will be a bad thing when it comes time to find a place of employment or an apprenticeship. You need to know the right way to do things and your mentor will more than likely want you to be green (a.k.a. new to the industry, so they can mold you in their image and teach you their way of doing things). Of course, once you are finished with training, you will acquire your own style, but don't let your personal agenda get in the way when trying to find an apprenticeship.

Landing the Job

  • It is important if you decide to pierce or tattoo that you do not try to teach yourself.
  • There can be good money in this venture once you are trained and actual in the practice.
