Man Arrested After Mistaking Sounds of Neighbor's Porn for Sounds of Rape
The next time you're home alone and you hear piercing female screams of agony, do yourself a favor and investigate the source first. This is a lesson that JamesVan Iveren wishes he'd followed prior to kicking in his neighbor's door on February 12th 2007. What makes the story more
bizarre is that Mr. Van Iveren, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, had in his hand a cavalry sword. His intentions were on the "up and up." But authorities arrested him anyway...
WHAT WAS HE DOING THERE?
The entire catastrophe began sometime in the morning of Feb. 12th. In the apartment that Van Iveren shares with his mother, he suddenly heard a woman screaming for help. Since there was no phone in his aparment, he promptly picked up a family heirloom, a cavalry sword, and headed upstairs to confront his neighbor. The tenant claims that Van Iveren pounded on the door and then kicked it open without a warning, assuming that there was a woman being raped in the apartment.
Van Iveren began to demand where "the woman" [who was being raped] was. But when the tenant denied any existence of a woman in his apartment, Van Iveren began thrusting the sword at the man. But there was no lady in the neighbor's apartment. As a matter of fact, the neighbor alleged that he even opened various doors in the apartment to prove that he was indeed there alone.
James Van Iveren however, is downplaying the event, denying that he saw any other parts of the home, and further states that he did not threaten the tenant with the weapon. Providing a source of the screams that his intruder heard, the tenant played for police the section of a pornographic DVD he was watching at the time of the invasion.
