With the final verdict on the custody hearing for the remains of Anna Nicole Smith made, rumors and complaints of Judge Seidlin showboating arise. Raised in the Bronx with modest beginnings, Larry Seidlin was elected a judge at 28 years old and serves as a judge in Broward County. Could he be vying for his own television program? Does he want to be the next Judge Judy? One can only speculate.

According to Court TV News, the judge ruled Anna Nicole Smith be buried in Bahamas alongside her dead son. While the decision was a no brainier (she purchased multiple plots herself), it took a circus ruled by an animated ringmaster of a judge to sort through the family drama and make a ruling. With Ms. Smith's body decomposing for two weeks, and waiting to be buried, it seems that she may not come to rest just yet. Her mother plans to file an appeal.

During the hearing, Judge Seidlin demonstrated every emotion from sidesplitting humor, to heart breaking tears. He interrupted proceedings, corrected grammar, threatened lawyers, and interrogated witnesses. Once could call it a one-man show. Having never been in an international high profile trail before, it is unclear as to whether this is the judges normal mode of operation, or if he went beyond his usual "performance" for the cameras.

The former Bronx, NY cab driver was also described as odd. Besides stopping to honor the truths in Iraq, he exhibited behaviors such as mocking a lawyer and offering him juice because he was too "stressed for no reason". He also referred to the lawyers with derogatory names such as "Texas", "Miss California" "terrific", and "beautiful". He chatted about his personal exercise routine and diet. He commented that the proceedings had been "delightful". He even referred to Ms. Smith's body as "my baby". Yes, he took informality to an all time low.

Other interesting facts about Judge Larry Seidlin:

  • Grew up in Pelham Parkway near Hunter College
  • Attended St. John's law school
  • Has been a Judge for over 20 years
  • In a 2004 poll of the bar associated, 20% of lawyers thought he was unqualified.

Sorry guys.... somehow I missed a typo before submission: The judge honored the troops, not the truth!

Great article. I would not be terribly surprised if "Judge Larry" is, even as I write, probably fielding offers for his own television judge show. It used to be that one connected the qualities of dignity and intelligence with a person of his stature. Not anymore, unfortunately.

How can we get this nutcase off the bench? He is a disgrace to the judicial system.

Man, I was watching Nancy Grace the other night about this. Unbelievable. What's even more pathetic than the judge is that fact that he is still one. We leave our lives in these people's hands. Its terrifying to think that some of them don't take their jobs seriously. Great article!

I do believe that he is looking for more than 15 minutes of fame, and the dollar signs are appealing to his senses as well. Great write-up.
