2007 Food and Wine Festival

Foodies prepare to savor the flavor of the Lowcountry! Charleston, South Carolina is gearing up for the 2^nd Annual Food and Wine Festival. It's a four day event beginning March 1 through the 4^th, 2007. This festival showcases the exciting regional cuisine of the Lowcountry in many delicious venues.

The Events take place in downtown Charleston, except for a few off-site wine tastings. The heart of the festival is in Charleston's Marion Square, which will be transformed into Charleston Cooks! Culinary Village. Marion square will showcase more than 80 vendors from a myriad of food related businesses as well as cooking demonstrations and seminars, author signings, and more.

Each day of the festival in Charleston there will be a variety of ticketed events, seminars, wine tastings, dining experiences, and demonstrations. There are cooking events for young foodies at the Wild Dunes Resorts Kids Village. Children can take cooking classes, watch demonstrations, and participate in various culinary adventures.

Several events are already sold out but there are still dozens available.

For example, on Friday, March 2^nd, there is a Southern Wine and Spirits Restaurant Dine-Around. Local restaurants welcome a guest chef into their kitchen who will prepare a four course prix-fixe meal. This also includes tickets to Bubbles and Sweets, which is a dessert and champagne party complete with a Jazz Ensemble.

On Saturday the 3^rd there is a Winemaker Reception in 10 private homes, complete with hors d'oeuvres. If you're feeling more casual there is the Saturday Night Reception at the Historic Rice Mill Inn on the Ashley River. Lowcountry cuisine is the focus of the evening, including the local Charleston favorite, steamed oysters. There will also be a variety of wines and cocktails and two bands will play music for the guests.
