*This review was written several months ago, and the GP2x scene has undoubtedly evolved and changed in that time period. Some of the comments regarding emulators or the firmware have likely been fixed, or at least changed. Still, this provides a good insight into GP2x ownership.*

Pros:
Community-Supported
Lots of available Emulation software
Quite a few Homebrew games/apps
Nice, compact form factor
Comfortable to play
Bright, colorful screen
Decent buttons
Processor speed can be under/overclocked in many applications, providing either more processing power or lower battery drain
Good video playback quality
Hardware video decoder means no re-encoding movies for playback
Mp3 playback
Expansion potential via EXT port(provided you purchase a Breakout Box or other cable)
Decent battery life
Moderately loud stereo speakers
Open-source with freely available SDK

Cons:
The Joystick is downright terrible
The Headphone jack isn't perfect
The battery life/power indicators at the bottom don't seem to function
Little commercial game support
Cannot format SD/MMC card in GP2x(unless connected to a computer via usb)
Built-in file management is rather limited in functionality
No built-in wireless networking hardware
No built-in rechargable battery(could be a personal preference)
Doesn't come with a power adapter
Most software only utilizes one of the two processors, resulting in overall slower potential performance in applications

Overview:
The GP2x is a Personal Entertainment Player created by Gamepark Holdings, an offshoot of Gamepark(http://www.gp2x.com), creators of the GP32. As follows are the specifications(taken from the GP2x Wikipedia entry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X ):
