2009 MLB American League MVP & CY Young Predictions

2009 American League MVP: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers
The American League MVP trophy is up for grabs in 2009. In his second year in the American League, Cabrera will win the AL MVP. In 2009 Cabrera led the American League with 37 home runs and came in third in RBI with 127. Cabrera was one of the only highlights for the Detroit Tigers as they finished last in the AL Central. It took Cabrera a while to adapt to American League play as he hit only 11 home runs before the All-Star break last season. Cabrera should have no problem starting off strong in '09 for the Tigers. I don't expect him to get many, if any more than 37 home runs in Comerica, but his RBI total could match or exceed the 127 he put up last year. Cabrera also had to battle with being thrown around in the Tigers lineup and going between third base, DH, and 1st base. In 2009 Cabrera will be at 1st for the entire season, which should help him concentrate on hitting the ball out of the park.

2009 American League Cy Young: CC Sabathia
Even with the pressure of the New York media on his shoulders, CC Sabathia will have a Cy Young worthy year with the New York Yankees. He finished April of 2008 with a 1-4 record and a 7.88 ERA with the Indians. Sabathia then went on a 16-6 run and finished the season with an extremely impressive 2.70 ERA and 251 strikeouts. If it wasn't for that awful April, and without the trade inbetween leagues, Sabathia could have won a CY Young in '08. As long as Sabathia can handle the New York media he will be a dominant force for the New York Yankees.
