A properly planned grocery list is a powerful thing. Having a well thought out plan of action will save you time, frustration, and money. Most people attempt to have a grocery list. Most people are guilty of making a poor grocery list. Random items are slopped on ragged pieces of paper only to be abandoned at the store or forgotten about altogether.

Have you been to Wal-Mart or Safeway on a Friday evening? If not, you may not understand the value of properly planning and executing a grocery list. If you have survived this horrible event you should make sure it never happens to you or your loved ones again!

Planning a grocery list can seem a bit tedious in the beginning. I must admit, there are a lot of factors to consider before rushing to your local market. With time and planning, you will be able to breeze through those store aisles with ease.

You should plan to buy food to cover a specific period of time. I usually buy groceries to last for an entire month. While it is not necessary to plan each meal to the pinch of salt, it is necessary to have a realistic needs assessment. I find it helpful to make a list of meals I want to eat during the month. Your list can be as detailed as you like.

Grocery list planning is a continual effort that begins once your groceries arrive at your front door. Your goal should be to get the most value from the minimal amount of store trips. The techniques listed below relate to buying groceries for regular pantry stocking. You should keep a continual list of needed items during the planning period. This list will be refined until it is time for shopping completion.

Consider health needs and dietary restrictions. You need to purchase items that will be beneficial to every member of your household. Keep this important factor in mind throughout the list planning process. This is a great time to plan for healthier eating for your family. Write down items you would like to try as well as items that are usually in rotation.
