A lot of people do not know you can borrow movies from your local library. They probably won't have that hot new release you can find at a video store, but if you are willing to watch things that are not quite so new, or wait until the movie has been released for a while, you could borrow it for free from your local library.

Another option is to borrow the ones you can borrow from the library and get the rest of them from the movie rental place near you. This will at least save you some money. In my family we frequently raid each other's movie cabinets and take a stack home to watch. This is a great alternative to spending a lot of money renting movies.

If you would like to get your movies free from the movie rental place it would depend on which movie rental place you have near you. If it is a Movie Gallery® you are in luck. Movie Gallery® always has special deals and promotions going on so you can get your movies free or practically free.

Currently they are offering free gallery rentals in exchange for used cell phones, used up empty ink cartridges, and teddy bears (but they told me any kind of stuffed animals would do.) Gallery rentals are always for five days so you would not have to pay anything extra to make them for five days like you do with the new releases. I was informed that shortly they will be offering free movie rentals with purchase receipts from other local businesses as a partnership with those businesses.

If you want to see new releases you can save a lot of money by purchasing a Discount Rental Card. I was alerted to this recently when I was standing in line with a huge stack of movies to rent and it was going to cost me about $26.00 to get them for five days including Playguard. Rebecca at the Allegan Movie Gallery® asked me if I was interested in a Discount Rental Card. I told her what I always say, "No thanks, I can't afford to buy anything extra, this is going to cost me enough."

Takeaways
Did You Know?
You can trade a teddy bear, an old cell phone, a used printer cartridge, and even a receipt for a free movie rental.

I like this...Unfortunately, we don't have any independent video stores near us...I think we have Blockbuster and Hollywood video, and that's about it...But still a good guide.

Thanks Sylky, an update is that they are using the local Allegan movie gallery to test new ideas and so Allegan is discontinuing the point system April 1st and if it works out well without it they will discontinue it throughout the chain according to Jill who works at the Allegan Movie Gallery so if you are close to a free movie better get it there and cash it in quickly! Maybe they will offer something even better!

Interesting article! It's amazing what we can barter sometimes to get what we need!
