How to Occupy a Child with Safe Internet Fun

Picture this: it's 10am on a rainy day. You have to finish a project that needed to be done yesterday. Your child or children have exhausted all your ideas for indoor fun. They are bored, restless and crabby. In lieu leaving them to their own devices, which might result in structural
damage to your home or an extreme make-over for the cat, try this instead: the Internet.

Oh I know; you've never felt comfortable with young children on the Internet. And for extended periods everyday or unsupervised, neither do I. But the Internet is a wealth of interesting, educational and really enjoyable activities for children. With supervision, your child can learn all kinds of new things and explore safely. Even if they don't read yet. If you have printer, your children can print great activities to cut, paste, assemble, decorate, design and use. You'll find games and puzzles galore.

Below are listed 10 of my favorite sites that your children can safely access. None of the sites contain pop-ups and the advertising is family-friendly. The sites are either free or can be used on a limited basis without a paying a site fee.

www.nationalgeographic.com/kids This site has all sorts of science games, recipes, crafts, puzzles and activities based upon animals and their habitats. There is a link for younger children called nationalgeographic.com/littlekids. It has a videos link that is like a zoo field trip right at home! Your child will love watching jellyfish, tapirs, spider monkeys and many more.

www.americangirl.com You'll find all kinds of quality girl activities. My favorite link on the page is the historical characters site. It contains loads of cultural and historical pictures, information, games, puzzles, maps using the well-known AG girls. This is a superb site for American History and social studies activities.

www.creativekidsathome.com Sign up to receive free newsletters packed with activities. CKAH features science and crafts especially. Your kids can enjoy the activities with little supervision. There are online activities for children as well.
